Terms
What a membership is, what it promises, and what happens if the project stops. Written to be read, not to be survived.
What you are buying
One payment. In return you get access to every Gentle Collapse release — everything already out, and everything released afterwards — to stream and download from your library on this site.
Both projects are included: the solo records and the records made as Gentle Collapse & The Stillness.
What "lifetime" means
It is worth being exact, because it is the whole offer.
Lifetime means for as long as this project keeps releasing music and running this service. It is not tied to your lifetime, and there is no expiry date. There is no renewal, and you will not be charged again.
What it cannot mean is forever regardless of circumstance. One person makes this. If it ever has to stop — illness, money, or simply the end of the thing — then:
- you will be told, at the email address you joined with;
- you will have at least 90 days to download everything in your library, in the highest quality available;
- what you have downloaded stays yours, under the same terms, permanently.
That is the honest shape of the promise. A membership buys the music and a guaranteed way to keep it, not a guarantee that a website exists forever.
It is not a subscription
One payment, once. Nothing renews. There is nothing to cancel, and no card details are stored by this site — PayPal handles the payment and this site never sees them.
Price
The membership is one Canadian dollar. Prices on this site are in CAD; if your account is in another currency, PayPal converts at their rate and may add a fee, which is theirs and not this project's.
You may choose to pay more than a dollar. Paying more does not get you more — every member gets exactly the same access — it funds the next record sooner. The price may change for people who join later. It never changes for anyone who has already joined.
What you may do with the music
Listen to it, download it, keep it, put it on your own devices, play it to people in the room. That is a personal licence and it is not transferable.
What it does not cover:
- uploading the files anywhere others can download them;
- using the recordings in a video, advertisement, game or other production;
- public performance, broadcast or commercial use;
- training machine-learning models on the recordings.
If you want to use a song for something, ask — hello@gentlecollapse.com. The answer is often yes and it costs nothing to ask. Copyright in the recordings and the songs stays with the artist.
Refunds
If you paid and cannot reach your music, that gets fixed or refunded. If you simply changed your mind, ask within 30 days and it will be refunded. It is a dollar; this is not complicated enough to need a policy longer than this.
A refunded membership ends access. Your member number is retired rather than given to someone else — reissuing it would change what everyone else's number means.
Your member number
Every member gets the next number in sequence when their payment completes. The number is yours and it does not move. It is public in the sense that it appears on anything you choose to share; your email, your name and your town are not.
Invitations
Every member gets a link. If someone joins on it, that is recorded so you can see how far the music travelled. There is no payment, commission, discount or reward of any kind for inviting people, and nothing is owed to you for doing it. It is not an affiliate scheme and it is not intended to become one.
Behaviour that ends a membership
Distributing the files, charging other people for access, or attempting to break the site will end a membership without a refund. Nothing else will.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. Anything that materially reduces what an existing member already has will be emailed to members before it takes effect, not quietly edited in. The date at the top of this page always reflects the last change.
The boring necessary part
The service is provided as it is. Reasonable care is taken to keep it running and the files available, but no guarantee is made that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing here limits any right you have under applicable consumer protection law.
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada.
